What is Express STI Testing?
- A quick and easy way to have routine STI screening done at the Davison Health Center.
What makes it Express?
- All appointment scheduling and risk assessments are completed online prior to your visit. During your visit our support staff will briefly review your risk assessment form, assist in specimen collection and get you on your way. That's it!
What types of screenings can be done at the Express STI Clinic?
- Chlamydia & Gonorrhea- Oral, Rectal, Vaginal and Urine
- HIV- Serum/Blood
- Syphilis- Serum/Blood
- Hepatitis C- Serum/Blood
Do I have to get every single test offered?
- Nope! You will select the tests that are right for you, based off the risk assessment you complete prior to your visit.
What if I have a hard time getting my blood drawn and/or have a phobia of needles?
- Since you decide what tests are right for you, bloodwork is not required. We do recommend routine screening for HIV, Syphilis and Hepatitis C, which can only be tested through blood. So, if you have a hard time getting your blood drawn you should schedule a visit for non-express STI testing, so we can make sure you are as comfortable as possible and have the time you need to recover after your blood draw.
When is Express STI testing not appropriate?
- If you have a known exposure to an STI
- If you are having symptoms or concerns with your body
- If you have a hard time with getting your blood drawn (ie. fainting, phobia, etc.)
- If you have questions you'd like to discuss with a provider
- For all of the above, we want you to have the time you need with a clinician. Please call to schedule an appointment with the Health Center: 860-685-2470
Is Express STI testing free?
- Charges for Express STI testing are the same as all other visits.
- Gallagher/Student Health Insurance: No out of pocket cost.
- Private Insurance: $15 applied to your student account and Quest lab will bill your insurance for the lab tests performed
- Self Pay: ~$150.00 applied to your student account or cash
- Price can vary based on the tests performed
How do I get my test results?
- Your lab results will be published to your Medicat student health portal typically within 1 week of your visit.
What if I test positive for an STI?
- If one of your lab results is positive, you will be notified by our team about the result and treatment options. We will help you navigate next steps and plan of care.
